filmmaker Udayakantha Warnasuriya started work on his 18th cinematic
venture titled ‘Kosthapal Pungnasoma’ (Constable Pungnasoma) featuring a
talented star cast.
Mahendra Perera plays the title role while the other characters are played by Gamini Hettiarachchi, Sriyantha Mendis, Dulika Marapana, Srinath Maddumage, Ravindra Yasas, Janaka Ranasinghe, Sisira Kumaratunga, Viraj Jayasiri, Ronnie Leitch, Chathura Perera, Lahiru Mudalige, Ananda Athukorale and others.

The movie is
co-produced by Udayakantha, Sunil T. Fernando and Yohan Premaratne.
Ayeshmantha
Hettiarachchi handles the camera, Pravin Jayaratne the sound management and
editing, Vasantha Vittachchi the make up, Mahesh Nishantha the still
photography while Donald Jayantha is the assistant director. Ashoka Ariyaratne
is the production manager.
Udayakantha’s
other movies ‘Rankewita 2′ and ‘ Senasuru Maruwa’ are also due to be released
this year.

actor Mahendra Perera plays the character role, this film stars a number of
veteran artistes like Sriyantha Mendis, Duleeka
Marapana, Gamini Hettiarachchi, Ravindra Yasas and Srinath
Maddumage.

The film revolves around Kothsapal Punyasoma, an honest
policeman. His friend Sergeant Wickremapala played by Gamini Hettiarachchi is
his best friend while their senior officer is Panditharathna (Sriyantha
Mendis). They experienced a number of complex yet hilarious events during their
service. The story goes that Punyasoma’s wife Champa (Duleeka Marapana) is
impatiently waiting for her husband’s promotion and a subsequent salary
increment.
It is at this stage that a gang of robbers abduct a young
woman demanding a ransom of several millions from her parents. The
responsibility to find the girl fell on Punyasoma and his police station. The
police hardly suspect that the abduction plot is made by none other than,
Viraj, the girl’s boyfriend himself. The film takes many comic and dramatic
turns during the attempt by the police to find the girl.
Others in the cast include Janaka Ranasinghe, Sisira
Kumarathuga, Ronnie Leach, Lasantha Udukumbura, Chathura Perera, Lahiru
Mudalige, R. G. Siriwardena, Ananda Athukorala and Menik Siriwardena who makes
her debut appearance on the big screen.
Udayakantha’s 18th film direction is filmed by Ayeshman
Hettiarachchi, while edited by Praveen Jayantha and makeup by Wasantha
Vittachci. Art director is Manoj Priyantha while Donald Jayantha assisted the
direction of ‘Kosthapal Punyasoma’, a film jointly produced by Sunil T.
Fernando, Yohan Premaratne and Udayakantha himself for ‘Bahuroo’ Films.
Bathiys and Santhus and Lanthra Perera of the ‘Doctor’
musical band created the playback songs which were sung by Nalin Perera,
Lanthra Perera and Bathiya Jayakody. The other films of Udayakantha to be
released, this year is a children’s movie ‘Rankevita-2’ and an action film
‘Senasuru Maruwa’ respectively.
