Later Hussey also hit the showers after bolstering a handsome innings of 49 runs, leaving the team standing on a total of 106 runs. It was then time for Chennai skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni to shun his critics as the wicketkeeper/batsman smashed a resilient knock of 51 runs and stayed unbeaten to see his side jam a total of 188 runs to Mumbai needed to win. Mumbai got off to a flying start as openers Sachin Tendulkar and Dwayne Smith clobbered a stand of 47 runs before the demise of Sachin, who fell after scoring 11 runs. The Indians then kept losing wickets at almost regular intervals and seemed lost, as their scoring rate came down drastically. This put more pressure on them which created chaos, causing the batsmen to through away their wickets without putting much of a fight. Consequently, Mumbai could bolster 149 runs for the loss of nine wickets with Smith as the highest scorer from their side with 38 runs to his name.
